and resources in East Asia, 2008From the viewpoint of Kansoku-Fuji (the concept of a sound food system in a sound agro-environment), the group aims to establish theories and develop technologies to predict and control environmental and food risks.

Lake TaiFor Lake Tai, which is notorious as an example of environmental pollution in China, the group aims to propose comprehensive measures to improve the quality of the water and bottom sediment as well as measures to conserve the lake’s biodiversity.

Ongoing desertificationThe group contributes to anti-desertification through the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) and other bodies, and by working in concert with domestic and overseas research institute for anti-desertification.

Fields under studyIn order to contribute the sustainable development of the agriculture, forestry and fisheries in East and Southeast Asia, the group is strongly advancing the researches related to environment conservation of agro-production infrastructure, countermeasures against climate change and global warming, and reuse of biomass resources.

environment in urban areasIn cooperation with China and other East Asian countries, the group develops and proposes technologies and systems that contribute to the improvement of the atmospheric environment in metropolitan areas.

jellyfish drifted in 2003 and 2005The group holds international workshops with Chinese and South Korean researchers to solve transboundary environmental issues such as outbreaks of Nomura’s jellyfish in the Yellow Sea and the East China Sea, and to promote international joint research projects.

in East Asia 2009The group aims to solve environmental issues in East Asia by using new materials for energy saving and new energy, waste-treatment technologies and measurement technologies.

Understanding environmental issues in East Asia from the viewpoint of the movement of surrounding societies as well as the economy and human behavior, the group clarifies and supports social systems. It also studies CSR (corporate social responsibility) activities - especially efforts related to environmental issues facing Japanese companies branching out into China.
