Toward Sustainable City and Architecture

Subject1: Evaluation Method of City’s Sustainability

Based on research of methodology and indicators for evaluating city’s sustainability in developed cities in EU and US, we aim to construct the comprehensive method and systematize indicators to evaluate sustainability of growing cities in Asia.

Subject 2: Land Use Analysis and Decision-Making Support System for Urban Sustainability

It is pointed out that 70% of energy consumption in a city is influenced by its land use plan. Based on the analysis on the energy consumption by human activities under the land use plan, we aim to provide stakeholders with the information on the impact to CO2 emission by land use plan, and figure out the rational compact city form to reduce the environmental load through scenario-based analysis and comparison of land use alternatives.

Subject 3: Energy Saving Technologies and Measures for Sustainable Buildings

About 40% of whole energy consumption is consumed for building construction, operation, maintenance and inside activities. We study on effective technologies and measures in order to stimulate energy savings and realize sustainable buildings.

Subject 4: Development of Diagnosis System for Energy Savings

Diagnosis technologies and schemes for stimulating energy savings of urban buildings are necessary in order to form compact cities which have less environmental loads. We develop different diagnosis tools for energy savings and construct network systems which send the quantitative energy saving effects to society for improving building sustainability.
